Surge: Mapping Transition, Displacement, And Agency In Times Of Climate Change

Museum of Northwest Art, La Conner, WA - To Jan 21, 2024

by Christine Clark

In partnership with the Skagit Climate Science Consortium, the Museum of Northwest Art presents the fourth edition of Surge. The initiative encompasses an art exhibition, lecture series, educational programming and art activities intended to bring together artists, scientists and community members to develop restorative and resilient solutions to the problems caused by climate change – namely floods, storm surges, coastal erosion and glacier retreat – as well as the other threats and unknowns caused by the changing dynamics we now face. The resulting art includes painting, textiles and sculpture. Among this year’s events are a panel on government and resiliency (Nov 4) and a community art-making afternoon (Jan 20).
