Carl Morris: Works From The Estate And Private Collections

Russo Lee Gallery, Portland, OR - Jan 4 - 27, 2024

by Joseph Gallivan

Carl Morris, who studied in Chicago, Vienna and Paris, was friends with Mark Rothko and developed his own potent brand of dark abstraction here in Oregon until his death in 1993. His work was about nature – both its awesome power and its beauty – and is held in prominent public collections across the States. According to his gallery bio, Morris' "creative honesty combines with his application of paint, creating a luminosity that emanates from the canvas". Catch the opening reception on First Thursday, Jan 4, 5-7 pm.
