Steven Nederveen: Special Trees

New works by Toronto-based Steven Nederveen build upon emerging ideas about community and connectedness among groups of trees. Combining painting and photography, the artist imbues his images with a sense of these qualities. “Through their root systems and underground fungi networks, trees are able to communicate with each other and share resources,” Nederveen writes. “Just as humans rely on each other for support, cooperation and empathy, trees also depend on each other for their survival.”
