Optical Wonders: Velma Foster & Katie Ohe

Curated by independent arts writer Mary-Beth Laviolette, a specialist in the arts of Alberta and Western Canada, this show looks at the early serigraph prints of Velma Foster and Katie Ohe, RCA, LL.D. Foster, who settled in Bresaylor, SK, continues to work as a printmaker and art activist, and Ohe, a renowned conceptual sculptor and printmaker, was awarded a Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Medal in 2022. But as young women in the late 1960s and 1970s, these two friends were recent graduates of the Alberta College of Art, making eye-popping, boundary-pushing geometric prints. This show includes approximately 16 of those early optical illusion prints.
