CAROLE ITTER: Only when I’m hauling water do I wonder if I’m getting any stronger

Morris and Helen Belkin Art Gallery, Vancouver, BC - To Dec 10

by Robin Laurence

Visual artist, writer, performer and filmmaker, Carole Itter has been a dynamic force in Vancouver’s alternative and conceptual art scenes from the 1960s forward. This survey of her multidisciplinary works and archival materials includes large-scale installations, photographs, sketches, costumes and films. Itter’s practice, the exhibition statement tells us, focuses on the local with respect to place and community while also asserting “the presence of the body through ecological, feminist and anti-capitalist lenses.”
