Duncan Regehr: Oracle

Duncan Regehr’s paintings place enlarged natural objects on ledges backgrounded by wavering layers of brilliant colour. These objects seem to betoken both stillness and the potential for transformation. Whether an intricately shaped shell, a precariously balanced samara or an upward thrusting toadstool, the subject of each work is endowed with a strangely iconic presence, which the artist relates to “divination, omens, predictions” – thus Oracle as the title of this recent series of paintings.
