Devotion: Louis Riel Writes Home
Nickle Galleries, Calgary, AB - To Sep 1
Many of us have heard about the North-West Resistance of 1885, but what do we know of the complex individual who led the Métis resistance and ultimately paid for it with his life? This exhibition of archival materials, recently acquired by U of C – including Louis Riel’s notebooks, family letters and defence statements from his trial for treason – reveals much about his character. Also revealed are his religious faith, loyalty to his family and profound commitment to the rights of the Métis people.
