Attila Richard Lukacs: In Helen’s Garden
Herringer Kiss Gallery, Calgary, AB - To Jul 1
Viewers will be surprised and moved by this show of intimate, diamond-shaped paintings by an artist who achieved early fame through large-scale figurative works of skinheads in big black boots. Part surreal still lifes, part evocative mindscapes, Lukacs’ recent works grew out of time spent caring for his mother, Helen, as she declined into dementia. His metaphysical imagery also alludes to his tending of Helen’s garden and to memento mori painting traditions.
