Retrospective: George Johanson

Painter and printmaker George Johanson (1928-2022) is known for his Portland-based figurative paintings and his dramatic landscapes, such as his images of the erupting Mount St. Helens, Washington. Johanson had a retrospective here in 2018, at age 90, but here’s a chance to revisit his supersaturated colors and figures engaged in the world (at the beach, at the laptop, at the easel). The work of this Oregon treasure remains collectible and defines a certain off-kilter way of seeing the Northwest.
