Rachael Chaisson and Rita McKeough | Asterisms: Water Ways

Southern Alberta Art Gallery, Lethbridge, AB - To Nov 14

by Lissa Robinson

Artists Rachael Chaisson and Rita McKeough consider two of Alberta’s distinct aquatic ecosystems—ephemeral prairie ghost ponds and the Rocky Mountain headwaters of the Eastern Slopes. Their peer-mentorship exhibition combines interactive sculpture, electronic media, sound and video, allowing visitors to listen directly to the region’s species in a changing environment. Chaisson’s textile installation features floating video field recordings activated by a pond-shaped bed, while McKeough’s animated floor projections and bird models broadcast a mourning chorus of bull trout and Clark’s nutcrackers pleading for human solidarity. saag.ca
