Robert Gamblin: Meditations on a Coastal Landscape

New gallery member Robert Gamblin shows oil paintings of the forest, estuary, ocean and sky of the Cascade Head Biosphere Reserve. A colorist who “sometimes shocks, sometimes soothes,” he shares a kinship with the late 19th-century Symbolists, using the landscape to explore the inner emotional states it prompts rather than to describe it literally. “All of my paintings reach for the transcendent using the emotional voice of color to do the speaking,” says Gamblin. “Every color we encounter vibrates with a unique energy that carries/is an emotional communication.” Opening reception First Thursday, Nov 5, 5 to 8 pm.
