On the Road: Journeys Through Japanese Woodblock Prints

Art Gallery of Greater Victoria, Victoria, BC - To Apr 4, 2027

by Michael Turner

A popular theme in Edo-period Japanese woodblock prints is travel and scenic loca- tions. As viewers will learn from this exhibition—drawn from the AGGV’s collection and curated by the gallery’s curator of Asian art, Heng Wu—journeys and destinations often intersect in harmonious ways. Those expecting views of Mount Fuji, the Tōkaidō historical highway and Fukui Bridge will not be disappointed. As for the unexpected, viewers would be well advised to pay attention to what’s happening at the margins of these iconic landscape attractions. aggv.ca
