KEITH TURNBULL: and the virus made everything a bit strange…
Harcourt House Artist Run Centre, Edmonton, AB - Sep 16 - 24
Keith Turnbull’s 24 ceramic sculptures are a combination of Conceptualism, Surrealism and mythical bestiary. Developed during the first two years of the COVID-19 pandemic, one for each month, most of them combine disparate animal features– a bear’s head and body, say, with a horse’s hooves and a pig’s tail – and stand as metaphors for the uncertainties and discombobulations of those times. More strangeness: other small creatures ride along in pockets on the backs of these odd and engaging hybrids.
