Fleurs Du Mal: Alexandra Haeseker
Vernon Public Art Gallery, Vernon, BC - To Sep 21
Alexandra Haeseker’s installation of large-scale print works employs plant and insect imagery to express her concern about environmental destruction and climate change. By confronting and surrounding us with greatly enlarged depictions of small, humble and often overlooked flora and fauna – some of them dead or decaying – the Calgary-based artist demands that, in the words of critic Christiana Spens, we “reframe our relationship with nature” and consider “the fragility of life forms we often take for granted.”
