Jeremy Okai Davis: A Good Sport
Elizabeth Leach Gallery, Portland, OR - Sep 1 - Oct 29
Jeremy Okai Davis explores Black history and culture in powerful portraits, drawing on his interest in color photography and his background in graphic design. Cropping, layering and shading give drama to his works. In this new show of his largest paintings yet, Davis depicts Black Americans in the fields of sports and academia who navigated complex ideologies of “sportsmanship” throughout their professional careers. Subjects include baseball and basketball players, Kentucky Derby jockeys and college athletes.
