Tom Prochaska: Paintings
Froelick Gallery, Portland, OR
Tom Prochaska’s smeared, smudged and monochrome works speak to his rich artistic background and long teaching career. He has mastered many media, including printmaking, glass and paper-mâché sculpture, and made a daily practice of drawing. Through fishing the Deschutes he discovered the draining of color from the world, when rivers look like mercury, which matched his black-and-white sensibilities. He paints people laboring, street scenes and buildings, and pastoral landscapes, but everything leads back to nature.
