Rachel Yoder: By This Means

Ladders recur as both images and metaphors in this solo exhibition of paintings and prints by Rachel Yoder, a Nelson-area artist. Yoder’s day job as a carpenter engaged in house construction richly informs her art, which examines gender and identity while also exploring the ways meaning is made. “I have taken the ladder as a potent symbol,” she writes in her artist’s statement. “I use it to express escape, change, a sense of perspective, scale, rising to a new understanding, building a structure.”
