The Reach Gallery Museum, Abbotsford, BC

Stó:lō artist Deb Silver, a recent MFA grad and Lind Prize finalist, has created a remarkable series of photographs that bring Coast Salish cultural teachings together with scientific inquiry. Working in Peló’lhxw territory (eastern Chilliwack), she has focused her medium-format camera on cedar trees, ferns, mushrooms, lichen, root systems and waterways. Through trial and error, Silver’s photo development process also involves ongoing horticultural research and traditional Stó:lō dyeing practices.
