Hiroshi Sato: In the Distance
Harris Harvey Gallery, Seattle, WA
The solitude of American Realist Edward Hopper is a big influence on Hiroshi Sato. This California-based artist is a West Coast phenomenon, known for his all-American domestic interiors and Bay Area landscape scenes. In the new work, figures are isolated due to the pandemic and contemplate nature without cars, crowds or air pollution. A few still lifes reinforce the quietude of other paintings – images of suburban alienation and the psychological fatigue of social distancing. Reception Feb 3, 6-8pm
