Jen Mann: I Am NO·W·HERE

Jen Mann employs the traditional medium of representational painting to query the impact of social media and digital communications on our evolving sense of “self.” Her probing of the ways identity is formed and existentially challenged is hinted at in the show’s title: the artist is simultaneously “now here” and “nowhere.” As she grapples with the shape-shifting role of young motherhood, Mann floats large, semi-transparent self-portraits over images from Western art history, as if searching for clues to who she might be.
