Emily Filler: Old New Borrowed Blue
Newzones Gallery of Contemporary Art, Calgary, AB - Oct 21 - Nov 18
Toronto artist Emily Filler combines painting, printmaking and photography in works that evoke her daily walk from her downtown apartment to her studio in a leafy residential neighbourhood. Vivid colour and stylized floral forms are backgrounded by the grey of concrete and the filtered blue-white of the urban sky. Working across both landscape and still-life traditions, Filler has also created sunny and references to the Ottawa tulip festival and her father’s garden, lovingly remembered from childhood.
