All Roses Sleep (Inviolate Light)

Surrey Art Gallery, Surrey, BC - To Dec 4

by Robin Laurence

Imagine yourself as a solitary bee searching for a wild rose on the wide prairie. With their immersive, ultraviolet video installation – along with scratch-and-sniff cards – interdisciplinary artists Alana Bartol and Bryce Krynski invite us to do just that. A multi-sensory experience unfolds as visitors see, hear and smell the environment through which the bee travels. From wildflowers and prairie grasses to pumpjacks and grazing cattle, the elements we encounter pose questions about the ways humans share the land with its flora and fauna.
