Micki Lippe: Loosely Hinged

Bainbridge Island Museum of Art, Bainbridge Island, WA - To Jun 4

by Matthew Kangas

This 50-year retrospective honors the artistic career of master jeweler and metalsmith Micki Lippe of Seattle. Two decades ago, Lippe’s art was influenced by a group of German jewelry artists during time she spent in Leipzig; her work took on a looser, more informal appearance. “I stopped trying to hide the threads,” she has said. Her necklaces, earrings and brooches, often one-of-a-kind, appear free-form and organic. Curated by Greg Robinson and Amy Sawyer.
