Pierre Coupey: Echo’s Bones / Enn Erisalu: Floating Forms

Gallery Jones, Vancouver, BC - To Feb 11

by Robin Laurence

These complementary exhibitions spotlight abstractions by two quite different Vancouver-based artists. Pierre Coupey’s suite of expressionist paintings improvises upon literary works by Catullus, Ovid, Samuel Beckett and Anne Carson as well as his own poetry. The late Enn Erisalu is represented by subtle paintings of geometric forms, many of them playing with the illusion of depth. His work often explores the ways we perceive images that seem to fluctuate between two and three dimensions.
