Norman Lundin: The Space Between Things
Greg Kucera Gallery, Seattle, WA - Feb 16 - Apr 1
Any opportunity to see the somber, brilliant realist paintings of University of Washington professor emeritus Norman Lundin is welcome. The current display, covering the past six years, combines still lifes, studio scenes and landscapes (including Manitoba Grasslands after Rain, 2020). Turning 85 this year, Lundin has met the challenge that Abstract Expressionism presented to Realism by elevating interspatial areas within each painting to geometric levels of organization. Opticality becomes paramount over subject, as each image slowly reveals itself.
