From Balzar to Hunt

Presented in conjunction with guest curator Christine May’s From Warhol to Banksy exhibition, From Balzar to Hunt provides a regional complement to Pop Art’s more familiar international icons. Joan Balzar’s boldly coloured, hard-edge abstractions have lost none of their vitality since they were first shown in the 1960s and ’70s, while Heiltsuk artist Shawn Hunt’s fusion of Pop and Northwest Coast motifs reminds us of Pop Art’s intelligently playful nature. Additional artists include local legend Michael Morris and the underappreciated Audrey Riller.
