Multiple Realities: Experimental Art In The Eastern Bloc, 1960–1980s

Vancouver Art Gallery, Vancouver, BC - To Apr 21

by Michael Turner

Featuring over 200 works by more than 100 artists and collectives, Multiple Realities more than lives up to its name as an exhibition focused on the variable experiences of those living in six Central European countries—East Germany, Poland, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Yugoslavia and Romania—and the uniformity of the Soviet Union’s big-top dictums. Though works cover a range of media, highlights include performance documents and moving images that carry details of everyday life. Artists include Autoperformationsartisten, Plastic People of the Universe and AWACS.
