From War To Hope: Chim’s Photojournalism

Sidney and Gertrude Zack Gallery, Vancouver, BC - Apr 21 – Jun 15

by Michael Turner

“Chim,” a.k.a. David Seymour and Dawid Szymin (1911–1956), was a Polish-born photojournalist who covered the Spanish Civil War, co-founded Magnum Photos (with Henri Cartier-Bresson, Robert Capa and George Rodger) and worked with UNICEF on the plight of children in the years after World War II. This exhibition, initiated by Cynthia Young, curator at New York’s International Center of Photography, features 51 vintage prints that “capture the raw emotions and pivotal moments from war-torn landscapes to stories of resilience and hope.”
