This extensive exhibition, organized by two Italian institutions along with EDG, USA, is “dedicated to the powerful military class that ruled Japan for nearly 700 years.” Full suits of armor, helmets and weaponry from the 16th to 19th centuries join exquisite lacquer boxes and personal items associated with the samurai ruling class. Iron swords covering three centuries are on view in a companion show (to May 4). In addition, calligraphy, porcelains and bonsai trees supplement a classic film series.
