Emilie Fantuz & Gillian Richards: Liminal City

Featured here are two artists whose realist paintings revel in those in-between and overlapping spaces that cities excel in. For Gillian Richards, these spaces are not literal, as in building easements, but tend toward those that are overlooked in their isolation, such as empty parking garages and water pooled atop 1950s walk-up apartments. Most notable in Emilie Fantuz’s work is the presence of the window, both to look out from at a conjoining scene or to reflect back that which is hanging before it. pendulumgallery.bc.ca
