The Spirit of Will Eisner: A Retrospective
Northwest Museum of Cartoon Arts, Portland, OR - To Jun 23
The second show at this new museum describes the arc of Will Eisner’s brilliant career. Straight out of high school he was an entrepreneur and soon had his own studio, where he drew The Spirit (1940–52), a popular maverick detective series in newspapers. Eisner pushed the comic form in new directions and is credited with inventing the graphic novel. Reproductions of his works show his drawing, blue pencil and coloring techniques and capture the brilliance of the artist. nwmoca.org
