Takahiko Hayashi: Breath of Life, Breath of Line

These new paintings on parchment along with prints feature fluidly patterned lines drawn from the observed natural world and inspired by the perceived ethereality of life. “I try to create something from nothing,” Takahiko Hayashi has said. “It is when objects exist that nothingness can be recognized for the first time.” His work suggests flowing water, roots, feather plumes and floral rosettes, as weather and plants steer his hand. Hayashi lives and works northeast of Tokyo, Japan. First Thursday reception with the artist Jun 6, 5 to 8 pm, and exhibit talk Jun 8 at 11 am.
