Necroarchivos De Las Americas: An Unrelenting Search for Justice

Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art, Eugene, OR - Jun 15 – Dec 8

by Joseph Gallivan

This is a group show of work that resists and denounces diverse forms of political violence. Rarely seen artists in the Pacific Northwest include Luis Camnitzer, Oscar Muñoz, Doris Salcedo and others. The title refers to “the archival study of the spaces between life and death and their interconnections,” and the exhibition forms an archive for those intellectuals, artists and activists who were kidnapped, tortured, exiled or murdered for demanding human rights and opposing dictatorial regimes and censorship in Latin America, from the 1960s to the present.
