William Cumming: Skagit County Agriculture 1941
Museum of Northwest Art, La Conner, WA - To Sep 20
A coincidental pendant to Tacoma Art Museum’s recent exhibition Forgotten Stories: Northwest Public Art of the 1930s, a giant survey of New Deal art, this project by young William Cumming was completed in 1941 and forgotten until 2014, when it was found in a barn. Twenty-eight feet long by seven feet tall, the painting depicts rear ends of cows being milked at a county fair and other picturesque scenes.
