Harry Mitsuo Kiyooka – Artist. Educator. Activist. (1928-2022)
Nickle Galleries, Calgary, AB - Feb 1 - Apr 28
While surveying some seven decades of the art of Harry Kiyooka – from the lively, hard-edge abstractions for which he is best known to his segues into portraiture and landscape-based abstraction – this exhibition also recognizes his educational accomplishments and cultural advocacy. The former include his 27 years of teaching at the University of Calgary while the latter encompasses his role in co-founding the Calgary Contemporary Arts Society and opening the Triangle Gallery of Visual Art.
