BRITISH COLUMBIA – Audain Prize for the Visual Arts

Steven Shearer (b. 1968) is this year’s recipient of the $100,000 Audain Prize. A maker of paintings, sculptures, texts and collages, the Vancouver-based artist has participated in numerous high-profile international exhibitions and is widely collected. Shy and elusive, he is not known for sharing much about his life and work. In a May 29, 2026, interview with the Guardian, he revealed, “All the hope or will to be able to communicate kind of goes into the pictures. And I try to stay out of the way once that’s happened.” MT
