Nelly-Eve Rajotte: Trees Communicate with Each Other at 220 Hertz

Contemporary Calgary, Calgary, AB - To Apr 19

by Lissa Robinson

Montreal-based artist Nelly-Eve Rajotte’s immersive, multimedia installation draws audiences into a space of profound contemplation and communion with trees. Connecting a living tree to a modular synthesizer, the artist generates moving images, audio and sensing technologies to explore relationships between humans, forests and technology. Inspired by boreal landscapes and romantic painting traditions, the work surrounds viewers rather than confronting them, encouraging reflection and empathy. It also addresses climate change and species loss, proposing technological memory as a way to witness fragile ecosystems. contemporarycalgary.com
