Still The Grass Grows: Heraa Khan

Art Gallery of St. Albert, St. Albert, AB - Sep 4 – Oct 18

Heraa Khan’s painted narratives are delightfully rendered with lyrical detail and mesmerizing depth. Khan practises masavari, a traditional Indo-Persian miniature painting art form that dates back to the Mughal Empire. Using meticulously layered brushstrokes and jewel-toned colours, she builds complex poetic narratives that honour a centuries-old tradition while addressing urgent environmental concerns. In this timely exhibition, Khan reflects on humanity’s disconnection from nature by capturing its beauty and precariousness and revealing the consequences of valuing progress over balance and preservation.
