Deep-seated Histories: Chairs from the Collection

Museum of Vancouver, Vancouver, BC - Ongoing

by Michael Turner

From its seemingly bottomless collection of artifacts, the MOV has mounted an artful exhibition of 150 chairs. Together, these chairs transcend utility to tell a story of the city’s social, cultural and industrial evolution. Included are legendary lifeguard Seraphim “Joe” Fortes’ Morris chair, which sat in his English Bay home; a Fritz Hansen chair from the former Woodward’s staff lounge; director-style chairs from Stanley Park’s Theatre Under the Stars; and a custom-made bar stool from Little Sister’s Book & Art Emporium.
