Verdant: French Masterworks from the National Gallery of Art

In a remarkable curatorial coup, the Whatcom Museum has benefited from the prestigious “Across the Nation” lending program of the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC. Visitors can see three masterpieces by Impressionist Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Post-Impressionist Paul Cézanne, and Fauvist pioneer Henri Matisse, accompanied by frequent tours and educational programs. Matisse’s Still Life with Sleeping Woman (1940) is joined by the earlier Picking Flowers (1875) by Renoir and Cézanne’s anticipation of Cubism, The Battle of Love (c. 1880).
