The Whatcom Museum occupies three distinctive and historically significant buildings in downtown Bellingham’s Arts District. The Lightcatcher building features rotating traveling art exhibitions, a permanent Northwest Coast exhibit, the Family Interactive Gallery, and the Museum Store. The Museum’s 1892 Old City Hall building features maritime and logging history exhibits, as well as the John M. Edson Hall of Birds. The Syre Education Center contains the Photo Archives.
Ongoing Many Wests: Artists Shape An American Idea examines the perspectives of 48 modern and contemporary artists who offer a broader and more inclusive view of this region, which too often has been dominated by romanticized myths and Euro-American historical accounts. OLD CITY HALL, 121 Prospect St. Ongoing Artists x Artists explores intimate portraits of artists by artists. Some artists turn the camera on themselves, others depict dear friends and colleagues in their work. The exhibition draws form the Museum’s permanent collection.
