Once synonymous with the Las Vegas strip, neon art is being reinvented in the capital of studio glass, the Pacific Northwest. Whatcom Museum presents Luminous Glow, by Kelsey Fernkopf, whose minimalist manipulations of light in space describe a futuristic direction for neon. Inside a building by Olson Kundig architects, a soaring 37 × 180 foot translucent wall frames Fernkopf’s monumental 30 × 20 foot Lightcatcher Constellation and other works.
