Min Joyce Abraham: Spirit of Spring

Based on traditional Chinese techniques, Min Joyce Abraham’s ink-and-watercolour works seek not a realistic representation of her birds and flowers but an ineffable essence, a condition that extends beyond the subject to the interior life of the viewer. To make her paintings, Abraham begins with black ink structural strokes, moving over her surfaces with intention and intuition, only later adding colour to enhance rather than define the composition. Once complete, the paintings are rolled in rice paper to remove any ripples, then framed. placedesarts.ca
