Even If I Wasn’t Here: Leanne M. Christie

For her current exhibition, Leanne Christie has produced 80 oil paintings over six months. Many feature urban scenes rendered in a smoky impressionism consistent with a region that, not so long ago, was a centre of resource extraction (namely, forest products). This increasingly hazy past is at the foreground of Christie’s project: how the loss of familiar landmarks that once anchored our memories contributes toward the confusion and alienation we have learned to attribute not only to rampant development but to too much time online.
