Peter Harris: Between Here And There
Ian Tan Gallery, Vancouver, BC - Nov 5 - 30
With their depictions of eerily empty nighttime scenes, articulated by artificial light, Peter Harris’ paintings evoke what he calls “a momentary pause of the forward momentum” of his travels through Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver. Empty subway cars, a down escalator, an up elevator and the façade of a modest restaurant: all speak to the ways Harris navigates the urban environment and its “transient spaces.” Through his hyper-real imagery, we navigate those deserted spaces with him.
