Kate Protage: Home and Away
J. Rinehart Gallery, Seattle, WA - Dec 1 - 23
In her new work, Kate Protage shares with Andy Warhol, Chuck Close and others the use of photography as subject matter: how the camera alters our view of reality – as seen by painters. Protage, who began her career in New York after graduate study at the Pratt Institute, exploits the sly unreliability of photography as a departure point for her blurred, frustratingly unrecognizable urban scenes. We strain to see and, in the process, realize that the distortion is the image.
