From Skyworld To Cyberspace: Skawennati

Mohawk artist Skawennati reimagines Skyworld, the place of origin in her people’s creation story, as a planet in cyberspace inhabited by a “sustainable, peaceful and technically advanced society.” Her new-media project, including inkjet prints and an online movie, features her Sky Woman avatar and achieves what the exhibition statement describes as “a trick of time . . . making the past seem like the future.” Physically based in Montreal, Skawennati has exhibited her digital works nationally and internationally.
