Architectures of Protection

Art Gallery of Greater Victoria, Victoria, BC - To Oct 26

by Michael Turner

Questions of care and safety in contemporary visual art discourse have necessitated proactive strategies designed to shield ourselves, our communities and the land from physical and emotional harm. This group exhibition, featuring work in a variety of media, casts a critical eye on systems and structures that, intentionally or otherwise, have negatively impacted our lives and caused us to seek protection. Included in this exhibition are artworks by Dana Claxton, Jessica Karuhanga, Emilio Rojas, Beth Stuart and France Trépanier.
