Carving Birds & Conserving Land: Rand Jack and the Whatcom Land Trust
Whatcom Museum, Bellingham, WA - To Oct 27
Trained as a lawyer, Rand Jack worked on civil liberties and environmental cases in Seattle before moving in 1971 to Bellingham, where he practised law and taught at UWW’s Fairhaven College. In 1980, he took up carving; shortly after that, he co-founded the Whatcom Land Trust. This exhibition marks the trust’s 40th anniversary. In a museum press release, Jack is quoted as saying: “After forty years of bird carving, I am still excited when I open a block of wood to discover what is inside.”
