Chief Dan George – Actor and Activist

Squamish Lil’wat Cultural Centre (SLCC), Whistler, BC - To Feb 2, 2025

by Michael Turner

Organized by the Museum and Archives of North Vancouver (MONOVA), this exhibition follows the remarkable life of North Vancouver–born Geswanouth Slahoot, from childhood through his early working life as a logger, longshoreman, school bus driver and hereditary band chief, to a wider impact as the actor, activist, environmentalist and public intellectual known as Tsleil-Waututh Chief Dan George. Paralleling George’s life are displays that point to significant events in the First Nations rights movement in BC and Canada.
